This is an almiqui, once thought to be extinct, but alas. Here's what Que Bola has to say:
A farmer in Holguin province [Cuba] recently discovered an almiqui, a worm-eating, nocturnal creature recently believed to be extinct. The almiqui was last sighted in 1999 and before that in 1977. It's presence in eastern Cuba was first noted by naturalists in the 19th century and since then has been seen only a handful of times. The almiqui was a victim of development - - the deforestation of Cuba - - and the importation of alien species to the largest island in the Caribbean, especially dogs. Good news for Cuba . . . proving that socialism can actually work to preserve extinct species - - animal and human.
This critter is probably too damned ugly to survive much longer . . .

Why does it look to me as though this "animal" is mimicking Jimmy Cagney? Look at that perfect snarl. "You dirty rat...you killed my brother..."

Of course it's nocturnal. If you looked like that you'd want the lights off too.
