Seen on the Street
A well-known local vagrant, who looks very much like a marinated walnut, sitting on the pavement in front of Subway, where he traditionally hits people up for money, taking time out from begging to have a conversation on his cell phone about getting his hot water heater fixed.

This is seen a thousand times a day in Seattle.. Doesnt even seem odd anymore...

They all have cell phones? You'd think that would be bad for business.

Especially when you sit there talking about home repairs.

That gives me an idea. I was wondering how I was going to afford getting my roof repaired!

At one point the city social services were footing the bill for cellphones, voicemail, PO Boxes and other products and services for bums so they could stay in touch with (nonexistent) prospective employers in their (nonexistent) job searches.. I know some of those services have been cut .. but cellphones are about as rare among the bums as Malt Liquor 40s and cheap reinforces wine..

Make that "... about as rare among the bums as Malt Liquor 40s, cheap reinforced wines and voter registration cards showing the city election office as home address.."
This is a very liberal island of blue in an otherwise red sea..
