This my great grandfather William Myers' certificate of discharge from the 10th Ohio Cavalry following the general order to demobilize in 1865. He was eighteen at the time of the discharge and had served since 1862. Here's a picture of William, who was my mother's mother's father.
The only thing I looked up online was the history of my family name. Everything else came from documentation by family members.

One of my family members put together a book that included the entire family tree, and a documented history. Pretty cool. My dad's family was very prominent in South Carolina, or else I'm sure there wouldn't have been as much history available as there is. The Columbia airport was named after my uncle J.B. "Red" Caughman for a while back in the 30's and 40's.
