I have just returned from my fourth trip to Iraq in the past 17 months and can report real progress there. More work needs to be done, of course, but the Iraqi people are in reach of a watershed transformation from the primitive, killing tyranny of Saddam to modern, self-governing, self-securing nationhood--unless the great American military that has given them and us this unexpected opportunity is prematurely withdrawn.

Oh, he is SO in trouble.

He's been saying the same thing for years. People just pretend he doesn't exist.

He's the crazy uncle in the basement.

It's a damn shame he looks the way he does. If he looked like Mitt Romney or Rick Perry we'd be talking about President Lieberman in a few years.
Wait! As close as the 2000 election was we'd probably be talking about Vice President Lieberman and President Gore today if he were that much better looking. Never mind.

Gore would never have permitted him to keep up his support for the war on terror. It would have had to be a police matter all the way.

Actually, never mind to my never mind. There's no way Gore could have chosen a guy as handsome as my imaginary Lieberman to be his running mate. It would have highlighted what a stiff Gore was every time they were seen together.
Kerrey had to quit appearing with Edwards for the same reason. If he'd chosen a guy with the real Lieberman's looks and politics and had a remotely consistant message he'd probably have won.
You're right about Gore, Gail. I don't expect that I'll ever again be as happy in retrospect that my guy lost.

I'll have to say, even though I voted agaist Gore (like it matters in Texas) I did respect his choice in Lieberman. Leiberman has a lot of character. I may disagree with his viewpoints but he's one of the few people in Washington that I feel is driven by the issues instead of the opinion polls. I might not like what he thinks but I respect him because I know He actually thinks it, it's not just pundit speak.

The worst part of this is how utterly different he is from the rest of his party. Well, that and how little play this will get outside of the WSJ and blogs...

Yea, but he lost a lot of my respect when he joined-on with Gore, and started towing the party line.

Maybe he was going to put sand in Gore-bots crank case and take over as Prez.
