Professor Don Campbell of Emory University forces his journalism students to bring a copy of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution to class so they will have the experience of actually reading a newspaper in its original form, rather than online. What are your thoughts on the future of newspapers? Personally, I don't read them. They get that yucky black stuff on my fingers.
H/t Lucianne
They're good for wrapping fish or potato peels, and I'll buy one for dropcloth when I'm painting.

My wife likes the coupons. Other than that, online.

A lot of people seem to be proud of not reading a newspaper. I can understand that, but I wonder how they know which local candidates to vote for, or when their taxes or going up, or when a neighbor was murdered, or how their local sports teams are doing.
You can get all the national and international news on the web, but where I live there is no consistent source of local news on blogs or google.
(full disclosure: I've worked for a newspaper all my adult life.)

Even though we subscribe to the News Gazette, I still read it online because I seriously hate messing with the paper. All the local news is there, even the classifieds.

i like the paper, i end up reading things i probably wouldn't read online because they bury them. and there have been several times when i see things in the paper but then can't find them online.

oh, and most papers have cleaned up the ink thing. about the only time my hands get yucky is when i read several days in a sitting.

Don't get me wrong, Paul. I read the paper, I just read it online.

excuse the defensive tone. everybody in the biz is aware that internet news will improve and eventually squeeze out newspapers

Besides, as a oil and gas eco-terrorist, I try to save a few trees while I rape and pillage mother earth, or Gaia, for the hydrocarbons we are all so hooked on.

It's a matter of what you like. My husband reads them cover to cover all the time. I've never liked the paper, the ink, or the smell. I read much more of the News Gazette now that it's online than I ever read when it was just on paper.
