Is it OK to deal in MAMMOTH ivory? Conversely, is it any OKer to pass laws that would put people in jail or confiscate their money or property just for dealing in mammoth ivory? (Mammoths, BTW, are not endangered; they're extinct.)

If we protect mammoth ivory then they should protect fossils and amber encased insects as well. For that matter, we might as well get ahead of the curve and protect leather.
You laugh. When I was in high school my dad brought me back a leather bag from South America somewhere. Made from an in eutero calf. Always gave me the serious creeps. Sure. It could have been a stillbirth, but who the hell knows? Ick.
