You just have to explain to her that there are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. So to expect the unexpected is to be prepared to run into things we don't even know we don't know. (We could also prepare for things we know we don't know, but that isn't always necessarily the case.)
