Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense (Buddha). Man has the right to act in conscience and in freedom so as personally to make moral decisions. "He must not be forced to act contrary to his conscience. Nor must he be prevented from acting according to his conscience, especially in religious matters" (Catechism of the Catholic Church). If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him (traditional saying). For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect (Mat 24:24).
[A cento is a verbal collage. Each line is complete, and each comes from a different source. Traditionally, centos are poetic, but I am fond of making up prose centos composed of source materials that I've never seen brought together before. This is the first time I've published one.] The images are of the Buddha and Saint Matthew.
what a creative idea, SC!

This is another thing I'm going to use in Advanced Comp this year. My focus will be on helping students distinguish their own "voice" from other people's "voices," so they're going to start with these pastiches and then rework them into their own words.
