The white hybrid tea rose I planted in this spot died off several years ago. Since then, these red roses have been coming up from the rootstock (the area below the graft) and blooming gloriously once every spring. The last two nights of thunderstorms have made some of the flowers sag a bit -- the whole picture would have been prettier when the bush wasn't soaked and battered.
I have a 40 foot long reverse hedge of climbing 'Eden'. Pink cabbage rose. Unbeknownst to me, a few years ago one died and of course, the rootstock bloomed in its place. I was horrified, then fascinated, last year to see Red Rogues in my beautiful reverse hedge. But you know? Kinda liked it and kept the red in for another year. I'll decide this year after it blooms whether Rogues get shovel pruned or not. Change ups are nice sometimes.
